This is my daily driver. I used a kit from V8 Archie. It has a 350 with Trick flow aluminum heads,ZZ3 roller cam,Edelbrock RPM intake,Edelbrock 750 carb,and Sanderson Headers. It ran a 12.75 @ 114.95mph at Silver Dollar Raceway. It gets 20 mpg and has cold AC.
The gold car is my parts car. It's an 87. This is an Isuzu 5speed and a centerforce dual friction clutch. I should have cleaned the case better, then I would have found the warning stamped into the case. NOT FOR USE WITH 400 HP. It lasted 2 weeks. I got another one hopeing that it would last longer, it did...4 months. I have a Getrag now.
I found that you can save alot of time when changing the trans by hanging the engine from above, and removing the cradle. (There is a safety chain behind the comealong.) The whole job took about 3 hrs.(Isuzu#1 to Isuzu#2) I did the same thing on a 86 GT v6 car. It took longer because of the exhaust crossover, but it was still easier than pulling the engine.
TheGetrag came out of an 89 Berretta. Getrags use different mounts and cables from the Isuzu. I welded some brackets together and made it work. It's not pretty but it saved me from having to buy new shift cables and brackets, there was nothing wrong with the ones that were on it. If I break this trans I'm gonna try an automatic. I'm tired of shifting gears anyway. I pulled the engine this time because of oil consumption. The Trick Flow heads rocker stud hole is drilled into the intake port ( alot of heads are made this way) the sealer that I used on the threads didn't stay. I used teflon sealer this time. Problem solved!
This clutch lasted about 2 years. I guess it was time for it to go.
About the same time the clutch broke in the Fiero I found out that I'm gonna be a Daddy again. Carseats dont work very well in Fieros so I guess it's time to sell it. Since I had to take it apart to replace the clutch anyway I decided to save the aluminum head engine for the Elcamino. I had a good 92, 350 in the garage I freshened it up with new rings and bearings and put it in with the new clutch. The car still runs strong, maybe the clutch will last longer.
